What you will need: 

  1. U.S. Passport – You must provide your signed passport. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months and have two blank page available.
  2. Russia Visa Application Form – Effective July 1, 2011, the Russian Embassy requires that all applications for Russian visas submitted in the United States be prepared using the Electronic Visa Application Form which is a web-based application, available online at the Russian government site.   After filling in the Electronic Visa Application form online, applicants will have to print a copy of their application form, sign and date it.  *Please note – no corrections (typed or handwritten) are allowed.  If an error is made, you must go back online and start over.
  3. Washington Express Visas Visa Request Form – filled out completely.
  4. Photograph – Please provide one color, passport size photo. The photograph must be printed on photo paper, it must be 2″ by 2″ and have a white background, and it must have been taken in the last 6 months. Do not glue or staple the photograph to the Visa Application.
  5. A standard tourist confirmation from a hosting authorized Russian travel agency or a hotel, registered with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a Voucher with Voucher Confirmation from your hotel or travel agency in Russia.  In other words, to travel to Russia you must get an invitation issued by an agency that is recognized by the Russian government, or your visa will not be approved. Russian Visas are awarded to travelers for the travel dates listed on the voucher confirmations provided.
  6. A copy of your airline ticket or travel agent itinerary.
  7. Copy of Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

*Please note that Russian tourist visa applications are accepted only within 90 days of the proposed entry date to Russia.  Please apply only within 90 days of the date of travel.

A business letter of introduction from your company (on company letterhead) addressed to the Embassy of Russia stating the purpose of travel, the name and contact of the company in Russia you’re visiting, and a financial guarantee for all of your expenses.  Click here to see a sample business letter.
  7. An official letter of invitation from your hosting organization approved by the Russian Ministry of Interior or the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs OR Telex number with the name of the inviting organization. This must be the original letter, copies will not be accepted. Russian Visas are awarded to travelers for the travel dates listed on the voucher confirmations provided.
  8. A copy of your airline ticket or travel agent itinerary.
  9. Copy of Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

For applicants born in the former USSR or Russia you will also need the following:

  1. Certificate of Renunciation of Citizenship from the Russian Embassy.
  2. Evidence of Emigration -a copy of old passport and stamps showing the date of emigration. If you no longer have your old passport you must explain exactly what happened to it in your personal letter (see below).
  3. A personal letter from the applicant addressed to the Embassy of Russia explaining the complete route and date of emigration.  The letter must also include a declaration that you do not hold Russian citizenship.

*Please note that Russian business visa applications are accepted only within 45 days of the proposed entry date to Russia. Please apply only within 45 days of the date of travel.

Russia Consular Fees:

  • Single/Multiple entry visas- Processed in 10 business days: $198 on UP
  • 3 year Multiple entry visas – Processed in 10 days: $198 on UP

*Regular processing time will take at least 10 business days.
**Russia has begun using a Third Party Outsourcing company to process Visas and Documents and requires an additional processing fee of $38.
***Visas are granted or denied at the discretion of the consulate, this includes the type of visa (single, double or multi entry) & duration. Embassy fees are non-refundable.

No vaccinations are required to enter Russian Fed. from any country.

Warning:

  • Passengers exceeding a stay of 90 days in Russian Fed. should present an AIDS Test Certificate together with a visa application form to the consular department or embassy of the Russian Fed.
  • Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid on arrival.
  • Passengers are required to hold return/onward tickets and documents required for the next destination
  • All passengers must hold an Immigrant Card which can be obtained free of charge on board or on arrival. In case of stay in the Russian Fed. exceeding 3 days, passengers must register their Immigrant Card and visas through their hotel or sponsor.
  • Passengers visiting relatives must register with local police upon arrival and have registration entered in their visa. If staying in a hotel, this will be arranged by the hotel.
  • All visitors are strongly recommended to have sufficient health insurance or travel insurance that will cover any medical expenses.
  • Valid visas in expired passports or other expired travel documents are not accepted.
