What you will need: 

  1. U.S. Passport – You must provide your signed passport. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months and have a blank page available.
  2. Approval Number. The sponsor (business associates, friends or relatives in Iran) must request a visa for the applicant through the Foreign Ministry in Tehran. Tourists must apply through a tour operator or travel agency.
  3. Iran Visa Application Form – Please provide a completed visa application form; Click Iran-Tourist-visa-application for a .pdf of the application. Because the application changes on occasion, we’ve also provided a link to the Iran Embassy website so you may get the most recent version directly from the Embassy website. The application form must be filled out completely and have answers for all fields. It must display your full name as appears in your passport, and it must be signed.
  4. Washington Express Visas Visa Request Form – filled out completely.
  5. Photograph – Please provide one color, passport size photo. The photograph must be printed on photo paper, it must be 2″ by 2″ and have a white background, and it must have been taken in the last 6 months.  Female applicants age 9 and above need to respect Islamic dress code.
  6. Personal Letter of Intent – A personal letter of intent from the applicant addressed to the Embassy of Iran that explains the purpose of the trip, dates of travel, cities to be visited, contact information, and place of accommodation.  You must also include the name, addresses, occupations, and relationships of the host in Iran.
  7. Copy of your airline ticket or travel agent itinerary.

No vaccinations are required to enter Iran (Islamic Republic of) from any country.

Recommended:

  • Malaria prophylaxis. Limited malaria risk – exclusively in the benign (P. vivax) form – exists during the summer months in Ardebil and East Azerbaijan provinces north of the Zagros mountains. Malaria risk in the malignant (P. falciparum) form exists from March to November in rural areas in the provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan and Hormozgan and Kerman (tropical part). Chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine-resistant P. falciparum reported.  Recommended prevention: II in P. vivax risk areas; IV in P. falciparum risk areas.
  • Passport and/or passports replacing documents must be valid for at least 6 months after the period of intended stay.

Visa Issuance:

  • On arrival: if coming for business purposes, a visa can be obtained for a max. stay of 72 hours, provided the passenger has been introduced by means of a letter of invitation For details, click here

  • Admission refused to Women not wearing Islamic head cover, scarf, long sleeves or stockings.
  • Visitors must hold return/onward tickets and all documents required for their next destination, as well as sufficient funds to cover their stay in Iran.
  • All foreigners entering Iran must report their arrival within 8 days after arrival For details, click here

Warning:

  • Non-compliance with entry/transit regulations will result in fines of USD 500.- and passenger will be deported at carrier’s expense.
